Cadillac Power: Underneath the Cadillac CTS-V Hood

The Cadillac CTS-V has always been the most desirable vehicle in Cadillac’s lineup for automotive enthusiasts. Unfortunately, the Cadillac CTS-V is no longer in production as of 2019 but if you search hard enough, there are still some well-kept pre-owned units available. The first-generation Cadillac CTS-V was sold from 2004 to 2007. The 2004 and 2005 models were equipped with a 5.7L LS6 V8. This engine produced 400 horsepower and 395 lb. ft. of torque. The key behind the CTS-V’s success is that the engines used in these models were out of the Corvette sports cars at the time. So you get the luxury and space of a sedan but the performance and fun out of a sports car. It was truly a genius idea. All first-generation CTS-V models were only offered with a Tremec T56 six-speed manual transmission. For the 2006 and 2007 models, the engine was refreshed to the 6.0L LS2 V8, which had the same power numbers but a wider torque band, which made this engine feel like it had more grunt. The CTS-V went from 0-60 in 4.6 seconds and raced down the quarter-mile drag strip in 13.1 seconds at 109 mph, with a top speed of 163 mph.

The second-generation of CTS-V was offered from 2008 to 2014. This new generation brought many changes. Not only could you get the traditional sedan, but Cadillac offered the CTS-V in a strikingly-designed coupe or the super functional (and arguably the rarest) Sport Wagon. These models came with a 6.2L supercharged LSA V8. This engine produced 556 horsepower and 551 lb. ft. of torque. This rocketed the CTS-V to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, while running the quarter-mile in 12 seconds at 118 mph. This model reached speeds of up to 186 mph. You could choose a short-throw six-speed manual transmission or a traditional six-speed automatic with paddle shifters.

The third-generation CTS-V was produced from 2016 to 2019 and is the most powerful Cadillac to date. These models came with a 6.2L LT4 supercharged V8 paired with an eight-speed automatic. This powertrain made 640 horsepower and 630 ft. lb. of torque, which means 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds. The 2016 CTS-V could reach a top speed of 200 mph!

While the CTS-V is now discontinued, its predecessor, the CT5 will be offering a V series sedan so you can get your fill of new, high-performance Cadillac models.
